Location: Dar es Salaam and Mwanza

Deadline: 21st July 2025 at 17:00 hrs

Duration: Three months

The Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA) is currently seeking dynamic, committed, and qualified individuals to join our legal team as Volunteer Legal Officers. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience, contribute meaningfully to the promotion of justice, and work with a passionate team focused on advancing legal rights, especially for marginalized groups.

Role Overview:

As a Volunteer Legal Officer, you will be part of a team that provides legal assistance, advocates for human rights, and supports community empowerment. This voluntary position allows you to apply your legal knowledge in a practical context while contributing to the promotion of access to justice across Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer legal advice and support on a range of issues within TAWLA’s mandate.
  • Draft, review, and edit legal documents, including letters, contracts, legal opinions, and court submissions.
  • Conduct legal research and contribute to the preparation and strategy of ongoing cases.
  • Participate in legal outreach programs, legal aid clinics, and community workshops.
  • Support the implementation of internal legal compliance procedures and ensure adherence to national laws and organizational policies.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a qualified Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania, duly enrolled and in good standing.
  • Strong skills in legal writing, research, and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of discretion and professionalism, especially in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to issues of social justice, legal empowerment, or human rights.
  • Previous experience in legal practice, public interest law, or NGO work is desirable but not mandatory.
